Kristina Ballard

I’m a college student going to school in Massachusetts, who loves to run, has a pet bird named Cinnamon — and this summer, I’m interning with RightTurn. Truth be told, beyond the basic facts that they’re black, round, and necessary for a car, I don’t know all that much about tires. Sure, I could tell you that some are used for snow, you need to check their pressure, and I’ve heard the term “all-season” thrown around every now and then by my dad, but that’s about it. So, if you’re like me and the technicalities of tires and tire buying are foreign to you, check out my blog posts to learn with me.

So Long, Summer

As hard as it is to believe, my time as a RightTurn intern is coming to a close. They say that time flies when you’re having fun, and I know I definitely did, because these three months have felt more like two weeks — and that’s all thanks to the amazing people here at RightTurn. During my time, I was given the opportunity to work with a group of incredibly … Continue reading

RightTurn’s 1st Birthday

It’s hard to believe that I have now been interning with RightTurn for a little over 2 months! From learning about tires to gaining experience in the work world to meeting some amazing people, this has truly been an awesome experience. Also, lucky for me, I came to RightTurn at a very exciting time, for we’re coming up on RightTurn’s 1st birthday! In honor of this special occasion, RightTurn will … Continue reading

Rims: There’s More than Meets the Eye

On more than one occasion, my boyfriend has pointed out “the really cool rims” on another car. Sometimes the terms “blacked out” and “chrome” would crop up in the conversation. Never wanting to admit that I had no idea what he was talking about, I just sort of eagerly nod my head and smiled. Now, thanks to interning at RightTurn, I finally know what a rim is. So, for any … Continue reading

The Lowdown on High Performance Tires

A few days ago, while working on a project here at RightTurn, someone mentioned high performance tires. When I heard the term, I imagined sleek, speedy Italian sports cars zipping down a beautiful coastal highway — James Bond style. But, I still wasn’t totally sure what exactly high performance tires were, so I did a little recon. It turns out that the name is pretty self-explanatory…high performance tires are designed … Continue reading

Where, Oh Where, Does the Rubber Go?

Throughout my time at RightTurn, one message in particular has been emphasized time and time again: tires do not last forever, so regularly check your tread depth! Of course this makes perfect sense, for the more you drive, the more your tires will wear. Just the other day, I saw a great example of worn tires while in a parking lot with my family. I noticed that the car next … Continue reading

Dry Rot: As Fun As It Sounds

The other day, I came across a tire-related term that I had not yet encountered: dry rot. All sorts of unpleasant images began to run through my mind — think extremely dried out, dirt-caked, old tires. Before my imagination had the chance to go any further, I took it upon myself to find out just what dry rot is. As it turns out, dry rot is not at all what … Continue reading

An Intro to Run-Flat Tires

The other day while in the car with my parents, I noticed a Jeep drive by with its spare tire mounted on the back. Being the curious type, I asked my parents where the spare tire for our car was located and learned that we had run-flat tires. To be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure what run-flat tires were, so I did a little research. There are 3 main types … Continue reading

Fourth of July Fun

As the Fourth of July draws closer, I’ve found my mind drifting to thoughts of fireworks, warm nights, sparklers, picnics, and road trips…hello, summertime! Every year for the Fourth of July my family journeys out to upstate New York to spend the holiday in the splendor of the countryside. The area of New York my family visits is about a 4 hour drive from my home in Cleveland, so clearly … Continue reading

Tires Are More Than Rubber

If someone were to ask me what tires are made of, I’d say, “Well, rubber, and uh, rubber…” Well, it turns out (as you may have guessed) that there’s actually a lot more that goes into the making of a tire than meets the eye. To get an idea of how many different components actually go into just one tire, let’s take a look at a typical all-season tire. For … Continue reading

Learning about Tires

RightTurn is proud to present Kristina, our new intern! Read her posts each Wednesday to follow her as she learns about tires and their impact on performance and safety. — Jenn. My first day as a RightTurn intern, I learned more about tires than I ever knew was possible (and also discovered that I still had quite a ways to go). Luckily for me, I’m in the perfect place to … Continue reading
