Back for the Summer

After a busy school year filled with studying, exams, and of course a little fun every now and then, I’m thrilled to be returning as an intern with RightTurn this summer!

When I began my internship last summer, I truly knew the bare minimum about tires—they’re round, black, made of rubber, and get you where you want to go. However, throughout the course of my internship last summer I learned that when it comes to tires, there truly is more than meets the eye.

Despite their basic, black exterior appearance, tires are actually extremely intricate products that are engineered with a great deal of consideration. When it comes to tires, there are many different factors to take into consideration, such as the sidewall, tread, tire plies, tire bead, size, and specifications. In fact, tires are so complex that just one tire can be made up of 13 different types of rubber, including 5 synthetic and 8 natural varieties!

Suffice it to say; even though I learned a great deal about tires last summer, there is still a lot to learn! As my focus last year was primarily on tires and tire manufacturers, this summer I will be switching things up a little and focusing more on the car manufacturers. Since RightTurn works closely with various car manufacturers to determine the right tires for your specific vehicle, it’s definitely important to understand both the tire and car manufacturer sides of the story.

Again, I’m thrilled to be back and I look forward to sharing my posts with all of you this summer! In fact, one thing I’d like to share with you all right now is that I just recently got my driver’s license! While most people jump to get their license the second they turn 16, I was a little more hesitant and ended up not getting mine until I was 21 (yes, I know kind of lame). Being a new driver and a cautious person in general, I recently came across this powerful video from Volkswagen that really resonated with me, so I thought I would share it with you all. Feel free to comment with your reactions to the video!
