Not many people have a favorite tire. But I do. Not for the reasons you think. Not for tread life, not for comfort or even fuel efficiency…nope, none of those.
The reason I have a favorite tire is because it reminds me of one of my favorite artists – M.C. Escher. You might know him best for his impossible constructions or Reptiles, shown below. My favorite tire is the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO.
Look at how the tread blocks, weave in and out of itself and how the reptiles in Escher’s 1943 lithograph do the same. I like to imagine that when this tire is off road, each tread block is going on that same adventure like each reptile crawling out of the sketch and back, coming full circle.
Working for a tire company, I only took a few months to notice this black beauty. Some day I’ll actually own these tires, we’ll go on great adventures, and they’ll look great on my Jeep Wrangler.
